Notes for the use of arkivalieronline.dk
and the original data sources in the
Danish National Archives

This
website is in Danish, but can be used by an English speaking person if you are
willing to learn a few Danish words.
The following is a suggested outline of procedure in using the website. It is of course not the only way to approach
its use.
1. To Begin: After entering the site, Click on the Blue “English” at the
bottom of the left upper column of words (the cursor turns to a hand over the
word). This will give you some
directions and words that you need to know.
This is the only English portion of the Website.
2. To Register:
Registration is free, but you must be registered to use the site. Click on the “Ny bruger” (2nd
word above English and means New user.)
On the new page, Click 0n “Opret
ny bruger” (Create new user.)
3. Fill Out the form:
Click the circle in front
of “Oprette”
Fornavn First
name
Efternavn Last
name
Addresse Street
address
Postnr. Zip
Code By City & State
Land USA
E-mail
When the form is filled in, click on
“Send” at the bottom. You will
receive a password by email at the email address you have listed.
4. Login:
When you
have received the password, login to the site by entering your email address
and password in the upper right hand corner.
5.
Search the Church Books:
F stands for fødte born (birth and christening (døbt)
records)
K stands for konfirmerede confirmed (at age 14 usually)
V stands for viede married (in the records it may say copulerede)
D stands for døde dead (in the records it may say begravet,
buried)
J stands for jævnførelser comparison (you will probably not look here)
T stands for tilgangslister those moving in to the parish
A stands for afgangslister those moving out of the parish
6. Look in the Records:
Click on the Sogn name that is underlined
for the file that you are interested in.
Page 1 of the image
will be displayed.
In the upper left of the page is a field that shows the page number being
displayed
and the number of pages in the file to the right. Use the up and down arrows or type the number
in the field that you think you want to go to. Then practice reading the old script. Good luck. If you can look
for someone that you already have the information on,
it will help you
learn to know the script because you will know what you are looking for and more
easily recognize it.
7.
Search
the Census: Click on “Søg i folketællinger” then proceed
in a way very similar to searching the church books. These are the actual census records and I think they are more
difficult to work in than the church books.
There is another site that lets you search the censuses and displays
printed results that is much easier to use.
It is www.ddd.dda.dk
and there is another information sheet on that site.
This
website and contents have been tested by the National Archives only with
Windows Explorer using the Window XP operating system. I use Mozilla Firefox and have had no
problems.
If you have the program “Quicktime” installed and are experiencing problems, exit the Quicktime by right clicking on the Blue Q in the lower right hand corner of your screen (you may have to click on the “<<” symbols to see it) and clicking on exit. It will be back the next time you restart your computer.
